In
1998, 501(c)(3) status was granted to the Atlanta office,
under the name of the Black Church and Domestic Violence
Institute, with the Executive Director responding to requests
and presenting training events.
The Institute's culturally competent training for clergy
and advocates emphasizes supporting the empowerment and
leadership development of religious leaders in the historic
Black church in prevention and response to domestic violence.
|
BCDVI's
programs are designed to specifically and intentionally
develop relationships among congregations and domestic
violence agencies by garnering the support of clergy,
advocates and law enforcement. By engaging churches, shelters
and law enforcement in partnerships, battered women will
not be forced to choose between their faith and their
safety.
